1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, both sugars, allspice, and salt. Stir in oats. Using a pastry blender, two knives, or your fingers, work butter into flour mixture until large, moist clumps form. Refrigerate, covered, until ready to use.
