Lightly Embellished Brown Rice

When you’re serving cooked brown rice as a side dish or as a bed of grain for beans or vegetables, here’s a way to give it a little extra flavor.

Cooks' Note

If you’d like to use quick-cooking brown rice, follow package directions for a 6-serving portion and adjust the amount of water accordingly.

Ingredients

1 vegetable bouillon cube
1 1/2 cups brown rice (see note)
2 tablespoons nonhydrogenated margarine

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Bring 4 cups water to a simmer with the bouillon cube in a medium saucepan. Stir in the rice, cover, and simmer gently until the water is absorbed, about 35 minutes.

    Stir in the margarine and serve.
